• The Eiffel Tower sparkles for five minutes on every full hour after dark — from 7:30pm in October. Wherever you are, stop and look up.
• For the métro: a Navigo Easy card from the machines in any station. The airport train (RER B) takes a separate ticket.
• Book Orsay, the cruise and the jazz ahead — October weekends fill up. Lock in Friday and Saturday dinner tables now.
• Most Paris shops close on Sunday — except the Marais, which comes alive. Missed something on Saturday? You get one more morning.
• October in Paris: 9–16°C with the odd drizzle. A light coat, a small umbrella, and shoes that do 12km a day without complaining.
